Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Statement

At Megara we believe that the more diversity we have on our team, the more unique perspectives, experiences, and ideas we can share. We celebrate, respect, and value diverse life experiences and heritages and ensure that all voices are valued and heard. We strive to provide entertainment that embraces and welcomes everyone to enjoy and participate. By accomplishing this we will provide better entertainment, while building a better future for all.

We achieve our vision by working towards these five main actions:

Acknowledging The Problems

In order to do any meaningful DEI work, we must first acknowledge the systemic biases, marginalization of culture(s), wage gaps, and longstanding historic and current inequalities in American workplaces. By engaging in these DEI actions we seek to build a welcoming workplace in which employees recognize that their unique characteristics, skills, and experiences are respected, valued, and celebrated.

Attracting Talent & Acts

Recruit and onboard a cast, performers and a workforce that represents and reflects our community and attendees. This includes outreach towards underrepresented groups who may not have felt welcome, seen or represented in productions of this nature.

Formation Of A Fellowship

We have created a multidisciplinary council of internal and external individuals from different backgrounds, tenures, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, disabilities, neurodiversities, ages, economic backgrounds, and more that will act as mentors, stewards, and facilitators of our DEI initiatives.

Engagement, Development & Building the Culture

Support employees in building the skills and capacities to work in an inclusive manner with each other and the communities we serve. This includes creating substantive learning and training opportunities for employees, contractors, and vendors.

Invest Time & Money

Investing real resources into this work is just as important as defining a policy. These resources will be used for staff training, outreach to underrepresented communities, and completion and publication of metrics for success, improvement, and more.

Megara Land Acknowledgement

Megara acknowledges that we operate on the unceded land of the Lenape, Munsee, and Wappinger peoples. We ask you to join us in acknowledging these communities, their elders both past and present, as well as future generations. Consistent with Megara’s commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, it is our responsibility to acknowledge the sovereignty and the traditional territories of these tribal nations, and the treaties that were used to remove these tribal nations, the histories of dispossession, the exclusions, and erasures of many Indigenous peoples, including those on whose land our events are located. This acknowledgment demonstrates a commitment to beginning the process of working to dismantle the ongoing legacies of settler colonialism.
